Three Gorges Largest Dam in The World

World biggest dam, Three Gorges Dam, which was dreamed by great helmsman Mao Zedong, is complete successfully and comes in a running condition. This great dam will help in solve the frequent flooding of the Yangtze Jiang and the electricity power has become a major engine for China’s industrial boom.

Interesting facts about 3 Gorges Dam:

1- Three Gorges Dam is 185 meters high and 2309 meters long.

2- Water in Three Gorges covers the area of 1084 km square.

3- Dam tank can holds up to 39 billion cubic meters of water.

4- In the construction of the dam 27.15 million cubic meters of concrete and354, 000 tons of reinforcing steel was consumed.

5- 250,000 workers were employed for the dam construction.

6- The current power plant is 18,200 megawatts, which is nine times more than the maximum performance of the two TimeLine units.

7- 13 cities over 1,300 villages and thousands of archaeological sites were disappeared under dam water.

8- About 1.3 million people were moved into the most ethnically diverse and less fertile areas.

    Chinese government itself admits that the 3 Gorges dam on the Yangtze River Jiang caused some serious ecological, geological and economic problems that need to be urgently addressed.
