The Wright Brothers
The Wright Brothers revolution.
Sky High
The invention of the airplane occurred from 1901 to 1948, when the last of the Wright Brothers died, in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. This invention mainly occurred out of the Wright Brothers’ curiosity, which led to their experimenting on objects and making them fly. The Wright Brothers were average children, sons to average parents, spurred only by their curiosity to find how things functioned. They were significant because they invented the airplane, an important object in our lifestyle. Because it revolutionized travel in speed and comfort, caused people to fly to their destinations instead of drive, revolutionized warfare in weapons and defense, and also revolutionized communication on the speed and efficiency of the mail, the invention and modernization of the airplane and its uses caused a new era to be formed: the era of flight.
The invention and modernization of the airplane and its uses revolutionized travel in speed and comfort and caused the era of flight to be formed. “Most of us only have to look up into the sky to see an airplane, and many of us have traveled by airplane to places that would have taken much longer by any other means of transportation” (Bellis). We depend on flight no matter where we want to go, as our destinations take more time to reach by any means of transportation. Another quote showing just how important airplanes are in our lives is, “Air transportation plays an integral role in our way of life” (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). Flight is indeed important in our lives, and most of us use the airplane for anything from business meetings to out of state holidays. The inventing of the airplane and its uses caused the revolutionizing of travel in speed and comfort and marked the dawn of the new era of flight.
The creation and modernization of the airplane revolutionized warfare in weapons and defense, and caused the era of flight to be formed. “The use of air power in the Vietnam War would change the way wars were fought for the Twentieth century and beyond” (Nastasi). Without the role of aircraft in the army, we most surely would have been in a worse position than now, as we depend on it greatly in defense and weapons. Another quote on the airplane in our warfare is, “The wide variety of military aircraft includes bombers, fighters, fighter bombers, transports, trainers, and reconnaissance aircraft. These varied types of aircraft allow for the completion of a wide variety of objectives” (Nastasi). There are many types of airplane in the army, and they all are made with different objectives in mind. This use of aircraft in the military shows the new era of flight at its peak, with different types of aircraft, and different uses.
