Technology’s Uses and Harms

Technology is the knowledge of the process and the techniques that transforms the abstract ideas of scientists and the mathematicians into a concrete reality. It is the know how that enables us to extract the raw materials and then convert them in fossil fuels, steel, chemicals, plastics and food. Technology is also concerned with perfection of industrial processes, mass production and automation.

Technology is the knowledge of the process and the techniques that transforms the abstract ideas of scientists and the mathematicians into a concrete reality. It is the know-how that enables us to extract the raw materials and then convert them in fossil fuels, steel, chemicals, plastics and food. Technology is also concerned with perfection of industrial processes, mass production and automation. The advancing technology implies pollution, the exhaustion of natural resourses and the lack of workers satisfaction in automated factories. Hence, technology is a two-edged weapon.Technology has created glorified machines. It has increased their efficiency, though this has lead to serious problem of unemployment and environmental pollution hazards.

The chemical industry has grown a lot during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It turned natural rubber into a material that is to be used on an industrial scale. New discoveries like plastic, artificial fibre and synthetics were made. Dynamos and electric motors gave fillip to technological developments Henry Ford, the American industrialist, added a new dimensions to industrial technology. These developments in technology led to serious problems of unemployment, squandering of material recourses and social dislocation of humans.

Biotechnology and the manipulation of man’s own body, made amazing advances after the Second World War. An array of drugs to the combat diseases was produced. By saving life, it contributed towards the population explosion. Tranquillisers, stimulants and psycho-therapeutic drugs for controlling mental processes assumed great importance. No doubt, they helped the medical profession but they also created a grave social crisis when they became generally available.

Computers have opened up new vistas. These can make any number of calculations; stimulations of particular hypothetical solutions can be produced and studied. These have created the problem of unemployment. Sometimes, mechanical calculations may do harm to other people and nations. Space technology pauses a great danger to the world if it is used for polluting the environment.

Technology has made man mechanical in outlook, ruthless in attitude, materialistic in thinking and cold and calculative in behaviour. So we can say technology has created psychological, social and other human problems.

Technology comes in many forms including agriculture and gardening. Its actually becoming obvious to see that Organic is starting a new path and the future will hopefuly produce better nutritous foods with less impact on the earth. Please choose organic where possible.
It’s becoming more available in supermarkets every day!

    Happy Gardening, Marty

Soon, the only job available will be watching machines or fixing machines. Then what?

It’s also said that technology makes us weaker and too dependant, but gives also the power to develope even more developed machines… and there is no way to stop this. Can you live without your computer? I wouldn’t be reading you without one.
