Sugar: A New Source of Electricity

Extraction of electricity energy from glucose.

Researchers from Brigham Young University recently published information on the development of fuel cell based on the extraction of electricity energy from glucose. Thus, in the near future, source of energy for the human body, will be used for charging gadgets, cars, electricity supply and even homes.
According to chemistry professor Gerald Watt, carbohydrates as an energy source, for scholars, are of a great interest. The only thing necessary for the production of such energy – the catalyst, which could “extract” electrons from glucose and pass from- to the electrode.
The real breakthrough for the industry development of fuel cells on the basis of carbohydrates can be used as a catalyst – herbicide (weed killer). In addition, herbicides will significantly reduce the cost of such decisions. For comparison, hydrogen fuel cells as a catalyst expensive platinum is used.

According to recent experiments, the effectiveness of herbicides is 29 percent, IE out of the 24 available electrons (one molecule of glucose) can extract 7.
According to Dean Wheeler, thanks to this discovery, humanity will have access to new properties of glucose, which many had not even thought of. Now scientists are working on improving the efficiency of carbohydrate fuel cells. If all goes according to plan, very soon “Batteries made of sugar” would be commercially attractive, it is possible to speak about the beginning of mass production.

i think this is a tremendous discovery because our energy resources are gradually declining.
and we are having abundant sugar in our account so it will really help us in solving energy problem which we ie. world is facing now a days
