Smuggling Fireworks Across The Border

Fireworks light up the night during celebrations, parades, and festivals, and they can be costly. Why not drive out to Mexico to get cheaper, more impressive fireworks in bulk? Read more.

Every 4th of July it almost seems like tradition to go out onto your lawn and light up some fireworks. If you’re a person that doesn’t always happen to participate, there’s usually someone that is. Even from indoors loud pops can be heard throughout the neighborhood. Look out the window and streams of Red, Blue, and White can be seen lighting up the night. It’s an All-American pasttime.

After all, who doesn’t love fireworks? They’ve become popular during celebrations of holidays and during festivals. Families have no problem going shopping in bulk for fireworks, and Firework Stands and tents seem to set up camp for any customers wanting to get a fix. People end up driving back home with hundreds of dollars worth of chemicals in the trunks of their cars. Some people in the Southwest have put two and two together and asked themselves ‘Hey, why don’t I make the drive out to Mexico and get my Fireworks for cheap?‘

This was originally going to be an article about all the types of fireworks known to man, but we don’t want to hear about that. We obviously need to read about the number of people getting arrested for violating state law carrying illegal fireworks.

According to this article, “In fiscal 2008, agents seized more illegal fireworks from Mexico than ever, surpassing illegal shipments from China for the first time”. Mexican fireworks are much more powerful and have much more of a complex design than those sold legally in the states. You may find some Mexican product mixed in with others in Mexican border towns like El Paso, Texas. You can get alot more bang for your buck if you feel like doing the converting from Peso to Dollar currency.

Here in the U.S. we have strict fireworks laws to insure our safety, and we have no clue that we’re buying much more dangerous merchandise at a much lower price. The fireworks are illegal in part of being too unpredictable and having inconsistent charges that set off too early. Safe is boring, but injured is none too pleasant.

Yes,some countries don’t allow fireworks to be done by private entities/individuals.It’s almost as you need license for it.It makes sense for this measure, however, since it can make harm if one doesn’t know how to handle with it.

I had a cousin who blew off his hand with a cherry bomb. Fireworks can be dangerous, and people who don’t listen to the law are asking for more than you bargained for.
