Sex in Space Would be Essential for The Survival of Human Species

However, scientists at DARPA ( Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency ) are optimistic. They hope that soon, interstellar travel could be performed in almost 100 years. With ideas such as travel speed of light and biostază (a condition in which bodily functions are greatly slowed) still far from realization, reproduction in space would be essential for the survival of human species.

“ Birth in microgravity conditions will be very difficult, because there is gravity to help move the baby down. At the same, the sexual act itself is difficult to carry, since there is no traction , “says Athena Andreadis University of Massachusetts.

Moreover, some experts say that development in a microgravity environment would harm the fetus. So far it is known that life on the International Space Station harm human health, and spent long periods away from Earth’s gravity astronauts have caused the problems in the muscles and bones, and vision problems.

Experts put the problem to develop a system for producing artificial gravity, allowing people to survive interstellar travel. In addition, it requires thinking of a way of self-healing, for several generations of people to live and die along the journey.

Even if the problem would be resolved reproduction in space, all we need advanced technologies to ensure the journey, propulsion for rockets used today will not be enough. In addition, in the world, there is enough fuel to get there.

“DARPA and NASA’s Ames Research Center have joined teams to take the first step towards a new era of space exploration: an interstellar travel,” said U.S. Department of Defense.

“We try to stir up interest for several generations to take part in research and development of new innovative technologies,” said Paul Eremenko, DARPA project coordinator. At the same project will involve several disciplines including: physics, mathematics, engineering, biology, economics , psychology, sociology, and political and cultural sciences.

Despite some skepticism, which, rightly said that man has not yet managed to reach the nearest planet, Mars, DARPA experts say populating another planet would be a relatively simple process compared  to this, why they consider starting the project.
