Science Lunar Base
What if there was a lunar base?
Three Problems Humankind could encounter while building and living in the lunar base:
Life Support
On the moon, humans need oxygen to breathe. They would be given oxygen tanks or rooms where oxygen is constantly pumped, but it will run out one day or another and what if the supply has problems and humans don’t get their oxygen? If a back up plan is in action, what if that fails as well? What if the spacesuits have a hole in them? Humans would get the BENDS decompression sickness if they were not properly pressurised. They would probably die or if not, be in deep excruciating pain. To prevent all these problems, we must make sure that we have more than enough oxygen, with bullet proof tanks holding it, to ensure no leaks. If supplies run out, we could just contact earth and get supplies in two to three days if there is an emergency.
Lunar Dust
Lunar Dust is a major issue if we were to live on the moon. It would cause difficulties with drilling, as there would be a lot of static, which wouldn’t go away as there isn’t the right air for it, which means the drilling machinery would be clogged up. The Dust would come and get caught in anything we wear to anywhere we live, and could be very harmful, even fatal if breathed in. It could hurt if our raw skin would rub against it, and any material could break after a certain amount of rubbing from the Dust. We could prevent this by wearing thick materials, and always having a gas mask on, or having something on to prevent breathing the dust into our lungs. As for protecting the machinery, that’s a bit harder. You would either not drill, but that is needed to get the materials needed for take off etc… or you could get a vacuum right next to where you would be digging, which would cost money and energy, but be worth it.
Transport
Transport would be a real issue as it would take a lot of energy, time and money to get all the supplies to the Moon Base. IT would cost around 40 million dollars to get everything to the Moon. The newest rockets will be sent up to make a quick, efficient journey, but it will still be expensive.
