Renewable and Non-Renewable Energy Sources
A brief description of a few energy sources.
Coal
Coal is usually a dark brown or black colour. Before we lived, coal was formed from plant remains which were protected. Coal is a resource which we have to treat very carefully as we will run out soon. Coal is converted into energy when it is burned and the steam and smoke can be used for cooking and powering of other things.
Natural Gases
Natural gases are gases such as methane. Methane was formed as odourless gas when bits of soil and mud got changed into rock, which got changed by then intensive heat. This formed oil (petroleum) and the odourless gas (methane). Methane is composed of one carbon atom and four hydrogen atoms, and at some places this gas can escape through a crack in the ground. This gas can burn if you find out if there is enough activation energy in another form such as fires or lightning.
Oil
Oil is the same substance as petroleum. Oil was also formed when bits of soil, mud and silt were heated and trapped nderground, which not just created methane, but it also got bits of oil. These bits of oil can be used to power cars, as well as oil other things and make them run smoother. As you may know, oil is at a quiet high price now, and we are getting close to run out. This is why we need to conserve our oil.
Biomass (renewable)
Biomass is the renewable energy where you will use trees and other growing and enironmental crops and plants to get your energy. Brning these plants creates energy which you can use to cook or heat. This means that as long as we keep growing, we will always have the energy to heat and cook food.
Hydro (renewable)
Hydro energy is renewable, but it would also fall under the category of Kinetic energy. Hydro energy is created when rushing water passes a mechnaism which turns something which creates energy. This way of creating energy is very similar to Wind power. The only difference is that it uses water instead of win to create the energy.
Wind (renewable)
Wind power is generated by wind turbines. These turbines are installed very high up (approx. 50-100m) and these catch the wind and turn. This turns a mechanism which creates energy, and this way is very smilar to Hydro energy. If the wind gets too strong, there are flaps which are able to close down so that the wind is unable to spin it. When the wind settles down back to a reasonable speed, the flaps can re-open and the energy process can continue.
Solar (renewable)
Solar energy is one of the most well known renewable energies. Solar panels are made of many little objects called solar cells, which catch the sunlight and turns it into energy. Most people who consider having solar panels installed for their house only have about 2-6 panels. If you look around carefully when you are driving and going around, you will also see that many other things, not just houses use solar energy. Some phone booths, as well as electronic speed signs use solar panel as well.
Geothermal (renewable)
The best way of using geothermal energy is to use it for heating. This is considered the best renewable energy way of heating as geothermal energy is the heat that was stored under the earth’s thermal mass. Geothermal energy can also come from the radioactive decay from the minerals deep under the earth.

And what is that supposed to mean?

Renewable energy is the best!!!!! Pirates support it because it gives us more rum (people pay us to support it).
