Going Green

This article talks mainly about the pros and cons of the new generation of electric vehicles. Battery tecnology is improving and gas prices are continuing to climb making the electric car a serious possibility for many consumers.

Ever really thought about going green? Some people do the usual such as recycling their trash, riding a bike to work or maybe even installing a few solar patio lights…but what if you could do more? Ever thought of buying an electric car?

An electric car would use no gasoline and would run entirely off of batteries. No one could ever doubt you in the going green category ever again. There would be no tailpipe emissions so you would never again pollute the atmosphere and it would only costs you around two cents a mile to drive.

There are some drawbacks with electric cars however such as 7 to 10 hour charging times and limited driving ranges. With a conventional car you can fill up at the gas station in say 5 minutes and then drive 300 miles. Well with an electric car you can charge up overnight and drive maybe 100 miles. But hey if you live in the city and only a short distance to your work this could still be a great choice of rides.

Just think you would no longer have to worry about that oil change every 3000 miles or forgetting to change your dirty air filter. One thing I think I would enjoy about an electric car would be not having to wait in line at the gas station anymore. I have even seen some models that are using solar panels to assist in charging while the car is parked. This can help boost your driving range a few miles and keeps your batteries from getting too low…thus extending battery life.

As I researched this article I did find that most electric cars available today are a little pricey. This is normal, for most new products are higher but eventually do come down some. I remember back when cell phones first were made public, they were over a thousand dollars and were huge and bulky…they have been refined a little. I did find a couple of electric cars in the 12 to 13 thousand dollar range. The Zap Xebra is a little sedan that you can be in for around 12,000 dollars {

www.zapworld.com} and the ZENN Car starts at around 14,000 dollars { www.zenncars.com

}. But hey if money isn’t a problem for you and you want a really cool electric ride you might buy yourself a little Tesla Roadster…100,000 dollars.
