Geothermal Energy

A brief discussion of an excellent candidate for alternative energies.

Geothermal Energy

The word geothermal comes from the Green words geo (earth) and therme (heat). Therefore the meaning of the word is literally heat from the earth. This heat can be harvested as steam or hot water.

Geothermal energy is a completely renewable energy without any environmental cons. The naturally moving tectonic plates on the surface of the earth create friction which in return creates energy. This energy is preserved in the form of heat in underground waters near the surface of the earth. These waters could be accessed by simply digging wells deep into the crust.

It is strange that in a country like the U.S. where the most advanced technologies are in use, geothermal energy is not. Especially since it is cheaper when compared to fossil fuels when environmental cons are taken into measure. An excellent example of this is the bp off shore drilling sight explosion. It is estimated that tens of billions of dollars have to be spent just to clean up the ocean not to mention how much bp will be penalized.

In the U.S., the best spots for geothermal harvesting are in the west near California and Arizona.

If geothermal energy is pursued it is proven that NO OTHER energy source will be required to power every home, business, and city on the face of this earth.
