Stunning first picture from N.A.S.A. Solar Dynamic Observatory (SDO)

NASA launched the Solar Dynamic Observatory (SDO) on 12-04-09. The launch vehicle used was the Atlas-401. Atlas was launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. This weekend the SDO finished the roll overs. Then image quality tests were completed.

NASA held a press conference today at Newseum and revealed the first images (seen below) captured by SDO. NASA’s television and website covered the debut of the images.

I’m sure I speak for many other out there by saying that these images are breathtaking. I’m stunned and amazed at what I am looking at. Please also see the quick-time video that NASA is providing on their site.
