Bill gates has released a patent for a new method of attempting to stop hurricanes.  It would basically involve trying to cool the waters in front of the hurricane,  in order to weaken it.  This should limit the hurricane and potentially save lives.  A great idea.  Although, one wonders how practical it is to cool the sea down at the correct point.  Its kind of like my idea to dig up the ground around the Faults, and install really big wheels.  In theory this would help the plates move more easily with one another, and thus reduce the Earth Quake cost.  However, in practical terms, this is a little challenging.  Might I also point out my plans to solve global warming using a giant air conditioning system.  Or perhaps my plan to save the white Rhino by sticking horns on elephants and hoping that no one notices…

In fact, almost any idea is quite possible if one  is willing to put insane amounts of researches into it.  However, this history of trying to hard engineer solutions to problems is not exactly a good one.  The attempts to stop small floods by straightening the Mississippi and adding flood defences did indeed stop small floods.  Sadly it also created one huge flood, which was considerably more damaging!

What then do we need to do about hurricanes?  Well, not building houses in their probable path would be a good start.  After that, hiding in shelters and  evacuations.

In the end neither Gates, nor windows will stop the driving rain, and we shall all have to settle with buying a mac.
