Airlines Need to Go Green
Ready for the next page of technological advances? How about a jet plane getting 1000 times more efficient fuel economy? Dramatically lowering costs and saving you money, while lessening the carbon footprint of the jet. This innovative article describes how it could happen in the near future.
We all know that airline travel which once was more affordable is now skyrocketing in price. Although most consumers know all too well how much it costs to gas up their cars, few know how much they are paying for gas when they fly on an airline. It turns out to be shockingly high at today’s prices – being more than half the cost of the average ticket on many routes. With jet fuel prices still on the rise, and the average jet burning one gallon of fuel per mile, it is time to encourage jet plane manufactures to go green.
Welcome my newest thoughtful innovation, the Greenliner 797. Although I am focusing on a Boeing aircraft picture, (edited with Paint Shop Pro) all jet manufacturers should be encouraged to upgrade their fuel hogging fleets with this new technology described below.

Basically what would need to happen is a synergy of sorts.
Think along the lines of the type of technology in a Toyota Prius but more complicated. The key component will be super high grade lightweight lithium ion batteries integrated into the jet’s seating. Reinforced galactic style solar panels embedded throughout the outside of the jet will charge the batteries during daylight hours.
Next, energy producing nano wind turbines would need to be added throughout the outside of the jet. Since a jet moving forward has turbulent flow, the nano turbines will be able to charge the batteries when sunlight is unavailable. The jet will be able to seamlessly combine fuel and battery power during the takeoff, midflight, and landing processes. If these technologies can be put together, not only will much less fuel be used, distance could easily reach 10+ miles per gallon, lowering costs and increasing range up to 1000% When these types of technologies are added together, it will lessen the carbon footprint of the jet and substantially save on fuel usage.
All this could be invented as the technology exists. The manufacturers just need to be pushed in the right direction. Innovation can fuel our future, and lessen our dependency on oil, are you ready for a healthier tomorrow?

Another very well written and thoughtful article by Mr. Innovation himself, Eddie Starr.

Eddie, I agree with you! Not only airline, but all transportation means should go for GREEN, so as to reduce our demand on oil. The price of oil is going up and up, and thus it’s time for scientists to came out with Green-like fuel so that we can feel ease from the additional pressure arising from the rise of the fuel’s price.

I think this is a great idea that needs to be totally considered and researched by airlines. Great article!

This reminds me of an article about Airbus going green by 2020 http://ecotechdaily.com/2008/06/04/airbus-promises-green-aircraft-by-2020/ and the only thing this current article did not cover was bio-fuel. Combining those technologies would be outstanding!

what? how heavy are batteries and the motors that they would need?
and how do turbines on the outside help? they are getting their energy from the jet engines anyway…

You have some great ideas. I don’t know why the airlines wouldn’t do it.
