Could Small be The Next Big Thing?

In the world that we live in everything is gradually reducing in size, we are now driving smaller more energy efficient cars and the gadgets that we use like mobile phones and music storage systems are also getting smaller. As you go about your daily life you must be noticing how many things have changed in size, in some cases quite dramatically. And it doesn’t look as if it is going to stop.

There is a new scientific development that prompts the question; could small be the next big thing? Scientists have been working on a major new concept for many years and it is now starting to be developed.

Nanotechnology has captured the attention of technology companies, such as IBM, HP and Intel. The US government is putting aside this year a sizeable amount of money for the nanotechnology research program.

And now investors are beginning to eye the nanotechnology market with a great deal of interest. So, what is nanotechnology all about?

Essentially nanotechnology is all about creating incredibly small robots, which will have a diameter that is even smaller than a human hair. These nanobots as they are being called, will it would seem eventually be used for such activities as entering the human bloodstream for diagnosis and eradication of diseases.

Obviously for such technology to be viable it will mean that thousands of these nanobots will be needed to perform any of the many tasks that humans will require, because of our size.

This will make it necessary for the nanobots to be self replicating and that is where some people are raising concerns. If the nanobots are self replicating how will they be keep under manageable control and what if they get out of control and just keep recreating more and more.

The term that the scientists are using for this scenario is nano-goo and it would appear that it could quite realistically happen. But everyone is still eagerly pressing on with the research and development because the potential for this nanotechnology is absolutely enormous.

IBM are already working on developments, Intel are preparing for major downsizing of chip technology and HP has integrated many of their top technicians within the scientific community research centres.

Investors are positioning themselves for what they believe will be a massive deployment of this new nanotechnology when it is ready and are positive it will be the next big change in our world.

The future world will be very different from the world we know now and nanotechnology will create applications that are significantly smaller than the ones which we use today.

Applications such as mobile phones that are nothing more than a neck implant which works on voice response, optical sensors that will bring high definition images direct to our brains and just about anything else that you can possibly imagine.

Could small be the next big thing? The answer is an emphatic yes!
