Chuck Norris Bridge
Published by Slovakia and Austria are to be connected by a bridge for cyclists. The Slovakian municipal government of Devínska Nová Ves lets people vote on the name of the bridge. The result? Chuck Norris bridge with no competition.
When the voting began the municipal government suggested historical figures as sources for the name. For example Maria Terézia the queen of Austrio-Hungarian empire. However once voting began Chuck Norris was suggested and immediately became the leading candidate. In a month Chuck Norris has accumulated over 9000 votes, other candidates only managed a few hundred.
The municipality however refuses giving the bridge the name: Chuck Norris bridge, stating that a pop culture figure is not suitable for this purpose. The mayor of Devísnka Nová Ves, where the bridge is located however promises to honor Chuck Norris in a different, more suitable way.
The bridge has drawn internarional attention and newspapers in many east european countries informed about the curiosity.
However facebook users (the voting takes place through facebook) however are all behind Chuck Norris. Lets just hope that democracy wins and Slovakia will earn its very own Chuck Norris bridge!
