Technology: Beneficial or Hazardous?
The world we live in brims with technology of different shapes and forms designed to aid us with our lives. But are some things too good to be true?
We’ve all come to recognize technology as something that affects our everyday lives. But as of late, people have begun to speculate what effects certain technology have on our bodies. For example, the most common piece of technological wizardry used in this debate is the cell phone.
Many people have complained about their cell phones causing them headaches. When scientists initially researched the problem, they discovered that the phones, like many other pieces of technology, were releasing EMF (electro-magnetic frequency) waves into the surrounding atmosphere. These waves are said to be passing through us and affecting us on an unconscious level. This belief was further proven when scientists held up a cell phone to a microphone or other regular phone and heard strange static or high-pitch noises emanating from it.
So they’ve figured out that cell phones can affect certain artificial devices. But where does this lead? Well, on a recent story by CTV news, investigators stated that more research is needed before a final conclusion can be determined. But they also mentioned how there’s a gap of between 5 and 10 years from when a new piece of technology is invented to when it can be fully researched and investigated. But by that time, a newer piece of technology has already come out. Technology is advancing quicker than researchers can study it.
And because of this controversial debate, it has lead people to take different sides on the issue. Some say that when you hold up a cell phone to your ear, the microwaves emanating from it are essentially cooking your brain. Others feel that technology as a whole has no adverse effects whatsoever and can only benefit our society. And then there are yet other people who are against specific forms of technology due to one reason or another (i.e. radiation), such as computer monitor screens, televisions and even some things as simple as remote controls. Hydro towers delivering electricity throughout the countries of the world also scare some people, who believe that they’re sending out too strong of a signal and that it can only lead to problems for us in the future.
Well, no matter how many opinions there are in the world, we can all agree on one thing. Every electronic device does release some form of EMF wave or pulse. The question is simple.
Are the waves or pulses strong enough to adversely affect our health? Or has this whole debate been sparked by the technology-haters of our society?
The answer to this question, I leave for you to decide.
