Solar Panels
Solar panels are my choice to solve air pollution, because they provide cleaner energy than power plants
The goal that I am moving towards is a way to produce easy energy for homes and neighborhoods. If solar panels were installed on every home in a single neighborhood, then electric bills would probably be cut in half. Money will need to be spent on the purchase and installation of solar panels. We would benefit socially because the people that use solar panels will use less fossil fuel and will in turn reduce air pollution. Steps that need to be taken to meet this goal are:
- Solar panel fundraisers to install solar panels for poor families and public buildings
- Increased production of solar panels and solar batteries
- Construction of solar power farms to produce energy for large cities
- Eventual installment of solar panels on all buildings in the US
- Eventual installment of solar panels on all buildings on the planet
Clear skies and lower electric bills are what will show for these efforts.
Currently, the price of an installed PV (photovoltaic) system is around $9 per peak watt. This multiplied by the amount of watts of electricity you use up (can be found on your electric bill) should determine the amount of electricity and solar panels you will need.
Well solar panels are usually priced pretty high. Solar panels range in price depending on brand and size, but most are around $250-1000 (note that most are around that price. Not all solar panels are in that range due to manufacturer and size. And also note that this is usually the cost of just the solar panels, not including the installation price.). But the good thing is that if you purchase batteries to store your power or choose to connect to the grid, you’ll be mostly independent from power companies. (Note that if you choose to use batteries, the amount of electricity you can use depends on how much power your batteries can store.) Well, the basic concept is that the more solar panels we use the less fossil fuel and coal we use to power our homes to get less air pollution and more ozone to slow and maybe prevent global warming. This is a possible future because as more and more solar panels are used, the price will decrease and more people will be able to buy them. So this means that more people will leave power companies and eventually there will be no more power companies burning fossil fuel and coal.

This is mainly how solar panels work on a house.
The 4 steps in the process to meet my goal are:
- Any family planning on purchasing solar panels must have plenty of money at hand. So, families should save money up for solar panels if they wish to purchase panels. (The amount of money needed depends on the size of home, installation and type of panels purchased).
- Not all homes can take full advantage of solar panels due to orientation or inclination of a homes roof. (If your home’s roof is not oriented enough to install solar panels, then there are solar panel sun trackers that you can install on your lawn or back yard. These trackers orient themselves to the sun anytime of the day and point in the suns general direction. But getting these means that the installation of your panel increases.)
- A home has 2 options for energy storage. One is to use batteries and the other is to connect to the grid. A battery has a limited storage capacity but is the only true answer if you want to be independent. The other choice is to connect to the grid. By doing this you have a nearly limitless supply of energy and you also have a choice of selling surplus energy to the grid for a modest amount of money.
- The last step is the purchase and installation of solar panels
My solution will help reduce air pollution. If at least 25% of Americans were to use solar panels, then at least 10% of air pollution would be reduced.

This is a graph of 10 major countries carbon dioxide emissions.
It is important that we install solar panels on our roofs, lawns, o backyards so we can reduce air pollution and reduce electric bills. This will ensure that we have cleaner air by burning less fossil fuel and coal. All we need to do is raise money for panels and we can achieve our goal of installing solar panels and reducing air pollution and electric bills.
