Science and technology is indeed can be compared with a person having multiple personalities. At one minute, it could turn into a savior with inventions that can save the human race and the next minute it would change its mask into a devil that will annihilate the environment in just a blink of an eye.

Take for example, in the field of energy consumption. Scientists have been perfecting, for years now, our source of power in the whole environment. Life’s processes have been more convenient than ever with cars, appliances and the lighting system. We need not need torches while walking in long distances. We don’t need horses anymore wherever we go. We just have our cars or any transportation that we have and can afford and in a minute, will be there wherever we want to go. This has been going on for years until it has become the bane for the destruction of our environment.

While we are reaping the boon from cars and energy from fossil fuels, we are also experiencing the bane from the carbon emission of cars, factories and our home appliances. And unfortunately, man has become so dependent with technology that without the air conditioner, we will begin thinking that our lives are not worth living anymore with the extreme heat from the environment. Some people would also think he could be the poorest creature on earth without refrigerators that also emit chlorofluorocarbons that destroy the ozone layer.

There have been alternative sources of energy that tries to question the existing status quo of burning fossil fuels but to no avail, these sources of energy have never penetrated in the market regardless of its good intentions to our environment. Solar energy, wind and nuclear energy could become our next saviors but who will decide when? We would just hope that our environment will still be more patient with the changing faces of technology and hopefully it would give us more time to think these things over until we would finally make a stand in restoring our environment.
