Flashing and strobing in the dark of the night, fireflies are a common sight for people in the country. Their pale green light contains no ultraviolet or infrared rays for they are bioluminescence. Chemically produced self-illumination, -to attract a mate and to warn predators of their presence. Most fireflies are noxious of taste, and some varieties are actually deadly toxic to some predators.

The quintessential denizen of any scary haunted place, belfries, cemeteries, Halloween lore and subterranean caves, the bat is a misunderstood mammal. Representative of all things of the night, bats are often maligned with misunderstood feelings of fear and dread. They are instead, really quite a useful creature to have around for they eat a profound quantity of pesky insects.

Spooky creatures that might seem frightening to us should we be out late at night, in the dark, alone. To them the night world is perfectly natural.
