According to the Brønsted-Lowry Theory, an acid is defined as a hydrogen ion (proton) donator in a reaction. Acids exist naturally in the environment. However, human activities have increased the amount of acids in the environment while also spreading it to areas where they don’t normally exist. This is seen by how acids have impacted on the environment, in particular, rain, soil and ground water, acidifying all these parts of the environment.
