This is our final (sniff…) article covering the properties of life. Here we discuss the property of adaptation. Simply put, adaptation is when a population of organisms makes long-term adjustments to a changing environment for the purposes of survival.
Growth and development will be the topic of this article. It is the 5th article in our series covering the characteristics, or properties of life. Growth is the direct result of the organism’s metabolism while it precedes another property of life: reproduction.

This article series will cover the seven basic characteristics all living organisms have in common. This is a common topic in introductory biology courses and provides a solid foundation for other core biology concepts.
