In south Florida, the weather in January was unseasonably cold. You can see brown palms and large industrial fields of crops such as tomatoes and peppers burned from harsh temperatures, even frost. Many non-native tropical fish died and frozen iguanas dropped from the trees. Fortunately, the temperature is rising. Too bad the cold snap, the worst ever recorded in south Florida, did not reduce the python population.
This is a small falcon indigenous to North America and sometimes a bit incorrectly referred to as being a ‘sparrow hawk.’ This regulated but non-endangered bird is the most common beginner’s bird in falconry.
In North Africa there lives an un-endangered (but protected) species of fur-bearing mammal, the Fennec Fox. This creature is a nocturnal mammal noted for its unusually large and distinctive ears.

The amount of wild animals caught or eaten each year is close to or possibly even exceeding the species’ maximum yield levels. One day, they’ll be driven to extinction due to human intervention. The extinction of these animals will cause us to lose our rich biological system forever.
