Immune Response: Lessons From The Bat?
The immune system of the bat has been revealed to be unlike that of any other mammal. It is unusual in its toughness, toughness thought to derive from the demands of flying. In consequence, bats rarely die from disease or age, but rather from external causes. If the human immune response could be manipulated to resemble that of the bat’s, it is possible that humans may derive the same benefits from that response as bats do from theirs.
