The Double Slit Experiment and The Information Universe

The double slit experiment shows that information is the real substance of the Universe.

This is part two of the Information Universe series. See the link for part one.

The double slit experiment has to do with the wave/particle duality of subatomic particles. Even though it is a simple concept, this experiment has produced some of the strangest results in science. The double silt experiment produces the same strange results with electrons as it does photons of light. The original double slit experiment lead to the development quantum mechanics while more recent versions provide solid evidence that the universe in deed a virtual reality information system. While other aspects of quantum mechanics suggest the information universe idea, quantum eraser in recent versions of the double silt experiment clinch it.

The bases for this is has to do with the difference between the behavior of particles and waves. When a wave like a sound wave pass through a double slit you get multiple fringes produced by an interference pattern as shown in image a. When particles like bullets from a gun pass through a double slit it produces two fringes one for each slit as shown in image b. So physicists of the early 20th century were not surprised to get several fringes with light which has log been considered a wave. Now when they shot electrons through a double slit they fully expected to get pattern b. The fact the Compton effect indicates that light consists of particles (photons) only deepened the mystery.

However when they actually shot electrons through a double slit their surprise they got the multiple fringe pattern shown in image c. these physicists considered the possibility the electrons were interacting with each other so they fund a way to shoot one at a time. The result was that they still got the multiple fringe pattern shown in image c. This helped led to the development of quantum mechanics.
