Super Fluidity

The most remarkable state of matter.

For those of you that have payed attention in your 5th grade science class, you may know about the three main states of matter. Liquids, solids, and gases. An example of these in the periodic table is Mercury (liquid), Iron (solid), and Hydrogen (gas).

There is another state of matter that you may not know about. This special state involves Helium. At extreme temperatures this extremely light gas can turn into a liquid. This liquid is known as “Super Fluidity”. In this sstate, the liquid overcomes all surface friction and its viscosity becomes zero. In other words, when helium goes through this remarkable stage it can move freely through all objects and in a way, gravity has almost no effect on it. So if you poured some “Super Fluid” into a glass, it would go right through the bottom.
