Sloppy Hole: Painting Greed
Super massive black holes – the most greedy in the universe. Active absorption of the surrounding matter, wasteful scattering remains – all this leads to the threshold of death, the whole galaxy.

According to Professor Weil Sylvain, restrictions on the growth of super massive black holes at the centers of large galaxies – and the existence of these galaxies themselves – leaves a hole ejection process huge amounts of gas and dust. From the building’s Gemini Observatory in Hawaii and colleagues studied the Weyl galaxy Mrk 231, located 600 million light-years away toward the Big Dipper. It is estimated that its mass is about three times larger than our Milky Way, and is located in the active center of Mrk 231 super massive black hole has a mass of about 10 million solar masses, ie also about three times heavier than the holes in our galaxy.
It should say also that Mrk 231 is already in the final stages of a rather arduous process of merging with a neighboring galaxy – or rather, her devouring. This large galaxy literally sucks the substance out of which turned out nearby neighbor, dispersing the gas and dust to enormous speeds, so that from a black hole comes a powerful pulsation of the quasar.
New observations have allowed to better assess the force of the “appetite” of the black hole. The scientists estimate that the flux of matter that is emitted in the center of the galaxy Mrk 231, can be seen at a distance of more than 8 thousand light years away from its source. Matter over clocked enormous hole is ejected at a speed of 3.5 million km / h – annually since lost about 400 solar masses of material. Such an exodus could not remain without consequences. The interior of Mrk 231 are quickly losing matter – 2.5 times faster than natural processes can lead to its accumulation. This is changing and the future of all large galaxies.
“It is important that the fireworks that accompany the emergence of young stars and the super massive black hole feast coming to an end – probably just a result of the expiration of a massive matter” – write the study authors. As the exhaustion of the remaining material will go a quasar, a fully damped process of formation of new stars. Little by little, Mrk 231 will become increasingly dull, filled with only the old and dying stars, and she will go off and fall to pieces.
The striking “greed” of the black hole in Mrk 231, apparently it is not uncommon for such facilities – as well as its sad for the whole galaxy results.
