How to Make an Electro Magnet
Steps on how to make an electromagnet.
This is a tutorial on how to make your vary own electromagnet. For those of you who think that this is complicated you will be surprised to find out how easy it actually is. When I made my first electromagnet it got me an A on 2 projects I had to do. Those projects were the science fair and a how to speech for English.
In order to make an electromagnet you will need the following supplies:
- 1 iron nail (3 inches long)
- Some insulated copper wiring (about 2feet long)
- 1 D battery
- Some electrical tape
- A pair of wire cutters
Now, follow these steps:
- Cut the insulated copper wire (with your wire cutters. DO NOT USE SCISSORS) to about 2 feet long.
- Strip both ends of the insulated copper wiring using the wire cutters. Make sure copper wire is showing.
- Attach one end of the exposed copper wire to one side of the battery. Tape with the electrical tape.
- Wrap the wire around the iron nail as many times as you want. (that more times you wrap it the more powerful the electromagnet will be.
- After wrapping the wire around the iron nail connect the exposed copper wire to the other end of the battery. Make sure you tape with electrical tape.
- Clean up and play with your new electrical magnet.

Very cool. Simply and cool. Preschoolers (my favorite people) love this sort of thing. Thanks.
