Conditions Lasers Can Treat

Low-level laser therapy refers to the therapeutic application of lasers at low intensities. Also called cold lasers, a low-level laser heats live tissue just enough to stimulate the growth and regeneration of healthy tissue. Likewise, lasers can also be used to injure or damage unhealthy, diseased, or unwanted tissue so that healthy scar tissue forms in its place.

Cold lasers and laser equipment are used to treat a wide range of conditions. Certain types of cold lasers have been developed to target specific conditions. The Zerona laser, for example, is a laser specially designed to melt away unwanted fat. Some of the more common low-level laser applications include those that target:

·         Inflammation

·         Chronic pain

·         Acne

·         Fat deposits

·         Sun spots

·         Scar and tattoo removal

·         Hair removal and regeneration

Let’s take a closer look at how each of these conditions can be treated with lasers.

Inflammation: Injured or agitated tissue becomes inflamed, causing pain. Laser therapy is widely accepted as a treatment for inflammation because it stimulates the biological functions of the cells to speed up the healing of inflamed tissue, reducing the inflammation and lowering or eliminating the pain.

Chronic pain: Chronic pain and conditions associated with chronic pain, such as arthritis and fibromyalgia, can all be successfully treated with cold lasers. Lasers increase the biological energy available to each individual cell. This higher level of energy stimulates tissue regeneration, speeding up the death of unhealthy cells and the formation of new, healthy cells in their place.

Acne: Persistent acne is caused by oil overproduction, which in turn causes dead and dying skin cells to become trapped within the pores until they become clogged, inflamed, and sometimes painful. Laser treatments work in three ways to clear up acne: they release the buildup within clogged pores, normalize oil production, and speed up the generation of new, healthy skin cells.

Fat deposits: Cold lasers can penetrate the skin to target fat cells that live just beneath it. Lasers pierce a tiny hole in each fat cell, allowing the fat deposits within the cell to be released into the body where they are reabsorbed and flushed out by the liver.

Sun spots, scars, and tattoos: Any unwanted mark on your body can be removed with the help of a cosmetic laser application. Lasers slightly damage the skin surrounding the targeted area. As the damaged skin heals, healthy scar tissue forms in its place and the stimulation of the laser heals the tissue without leaving a noticeable scar.

Hair removal and regeneration: Lasers can remove hair by permanently damaging the follicles so it no longer grows, or it can stimulate new hair growth by healing damaged follicles.
