Weird Science

Some interesting work is being done on the fringes of science, especially in the areas of antigravity and free energy.

This article looks at work that is being done in the areas of anti gravity, which is now respectable because the National Aeronautics and Space Administration is studying it.  Then we will look at free energy, which is any energy provided by the natural world.  Finally, we will look at Nikola Tesla, a scientist who was ahead of his time.  A lot of this is very technical, and I do not claim to understand all of it, so please bear with me.

The first problem to solve in developing anti gravity is inertia.  According to writer Jeanne Manning, the key is to change inertial and gravitational masses.  People working without institutional funding have made some breakthoughs in anti gravity.  For example, David Hamel has built devices  which incorporate magnets for the last twenty years.  For another example, people marketing an anti gravity toy want to empower people.

As pointed out earlier, free energy is provided by nature.  Examples include solar panels, wind generators, water fuel powered cars, gravity powered battery chargers, and Earth-powered home heating systems.  Proponent Peter Lindemann says that the best free energy systems deliver energy at no on-going cost to the user.  Nor are there harmful effects to the environment and very low costs for the performance and maintenance of the equipment.  Free energy devices do not include perpetual motion machines or inventions that violate the Laws of Physics.

The best known fringe scientist was Nikola Tesla.  A Serbian-American researcher and inventor, Tesla discovered the basis of most alternating current machinery, the rotating magnetic field.  His experiments included various kinds of lighting, the power of electrical resonance and a carbon button lamp.  However, his best known invention was the Tesla coil, an induction coil used in radio technology.  Nikola Tesla invented this in 1891.

Tesla was also known for some controversial predictions that he made.  He speculated about communicating with other planets and said that he could split the Earth like an apple.  Tesla also claimed that he had invented a death ray that could destroy ten thousand airplanes at a distance of 250 miles.
