Top 10 Philosophical Discussions

The 10 controversial discussions on how the world came to be what it is today.

I’m by no means a philosophical genius but, as I have observed my fiancé studying for his philosophy class, he has been spending a bit of time on the study of Agnosticism. I asked him about it and he told me that his teacher was an Agnostic. My fiancé was an associate Pastor and a House Dad at Boys town so I know where his view lies.

However, I think it’s interesting to hear other people’s view of the world, how it began, Evolution, The Big Bang, Utopia, and so many more.

These are just a few interesting stories and views that I find interesting. I don’t necessarily find them to be true or false but, I like having options.

The Beginning of the World

The book of Genesis is a book of beginnings and it’s foundation within biblical world. There are many confounding views within these passages because of the lack of historical records for this period, and because of theoretical contradictions within Science and Physics.

Religion

The philosophy of religion is one of the most remarkable areas of philosophy. It acts on questions like….l Is there a God? What is he like? What does that mean as to how we will live our lives?

It also acts on the assumptions of others like Atheism, Buddhists, Christians, Agnosticism, and many more.

Ethics

Moral relativism begins with an explanation of the view that morality is relative, that there are no absolute ethical truths. This view may be helpful for some cultures and bad more others, it’s all relative.

Morals

These may be your own views or someone else’s proving or disproving an ethical theory. If you let your own confirmation bias get in the way of the worlds many vast ideas, you will never begin to appreciate the ideas of others. Should you believe someone’s ideas because they just seem to sound good that day? Should you renounce Christianity because you viewed a YouTube video about an active Agnostic?

Politics & Law

This view speaks about truth, justice, state, government, liberty, rights. What does the government owe us and what, as citizens of this country do we owe it? In my own experience, I don’t believe that the system has worked. I don’t believe that I have been protected against wrongdoing. Somewhere, in my life’s path, the system has shut me out.

Science

Many practitioners are philosophers who use their morals to draw inferences within their studies. Many scientists use their own philosophical views to determine if certain aspects of the world are pertaining to science or non science. This is where the idea of EVOLUTION comes in. What are your views? Was there such thing as a Big Bang Theory?

Physics

The study of matter and energy and how they react together. The study of space and time. Time Travel, a subject written about in mass amounts and the topic of many Hollywood movies. Myth or Fact?

Epistemology

This practice asks the question of knowledge and the basis or justification for it. We are not just talking about the knowledge of riding a bike or driving a car. We are speaking about the quest for truth. Truth that can justify our beliefs.

Utopia

The best life possible for everyone while we are on this earth. What about Plato? He believed an ideal world was not feasible. He was a pessimist and believed not everyone in the world could live in harmony with each other. Is that true? Could we live in a world where we were all equal? The harmony of our lives together would be so exhausting. A just world, a happy world. It’s completely unattainable.

The End of the World

The most interesting that I have heard most recently was the relationship of the Crystal skulls. Due to the overwhelming amount of movie buffs visiting the last installment of the Indiana Jones movies, the views of these skulls has become quit skewed. Many people believe that all of the skulls must be brought together at Stonehenge before the year 2012 or the world will end. What is the relationship between the skulls and Stonehenge? What about the findings of the Mitchell Hedges Skull? It was said to be found under a collapsed altar inside a temple in Lubaantun, in British Honduras, now Belize. Was it actually found there or was it purchased? Was it made by Aliens?

Tell me what you think. I want to know your views.
Life is just more interesting when we all have different views of it.

The moral section here made me smile, I do wonder how many people have changed their thoughts and ideals because of Youtube.
The crystal skull and stonehenge sounds an interesting subject, I wonder what the reasoning is for bringing the skulls together? I do wonder if some ‘christians’ have made their own version of the bible, and live by that, they spout, I go to church and God is my life, they then run of with anothers’ spouse (my vicar did,as did my highly religious, church going neighbour). As for governments and support…:( Interesting Lauren

Interesting overview of worldviews. I love that you’ve included science as one of the views, as I think that it is often presented not as a point of view but as irrefutable reality. I actually think science is probably the most “true” worldview, but, nevertheless, it is still a view! :)
