Telepathy – Delusion or a Science?

The word telepathy came into existence in 1882. It was coined by Frederic W. H. Myers, a founder of the Society for Psychical Research.

So does mental telepathy really exist? Can two people really communicate when they are a distance apart without talking or seeing each other? There are those who feel that it is possible and skeptics who think that it is impossible.

It is true that till date mental telepathy has not been proved. But if it did not exist how would we have known that a dear one is ill or dying that turns out to be true? We think of a long lost friend and out of the blue her call comes?

I guess till science reproduces results that are scientifically controlled no one would believe in it completely and just attribute such incidents to being coincidental. However carrying out an experiment of mental telepathy would become so difficult if emotion is missing. After all, everyone who have experienced it have been somehow emotionally connected. And if one were suddenly asked to form an emotional bond it would become so tough.

So then do we continue to wait till the human brain can carry out mental telepathy between to complete strangers?

The British scientist,Dr. Rupert Sheldrake, said that 45% of the time people make accurate predictions in a telephone telepathy experiment that he conducted. And this result is much better then if it were to be left to chance and coincidence alone. However there are many scientists who felt that the number of people involved in the experiment was only four and that the result is one of fantasy!

Professor Peter Atkins, Fellow and Tutor in Physical Chemistry, University of Oxford feels that trying to scientifically prove that telepathy exists is a waste of time. On the other hand, Dr. Chris French, a famous skeptic of the paranormal feels that it is very much an area of research on which work should not stop.

So what do you want to believe in?
