Creation Versus Evolution

A few things to consider on the methods of the universe’s conception.

The argument on creation versus evolution is quite old, and without a firm basis in faith, neither can be taken at face value. In this paper, I will take a hopefully unbiased look at the differences and similarities between the two. As hard as I try, I cannot show a totally unbiased sheet of facts, because, being human, I cannot display things completely objectively. While the science on both of these issues is far from perfect, strides are being made daily to improve the sciences used to discover the true method of our universe’s conception.

The first issue I will look at is the start of both of these ideals. Evolutionism, or Natural Selection, was founded largely thanks to the works of Charles Darwin on board the ship HMS Beagle during its second voyage. Creationism, on the other hand, has existed, literally, since the dawn of civilization in one form or another. Darwin’s voyage on the HMS Beagle took him to many exotic islands, where he noticed several different subspecies on separate islands only miles away from each other. Creationism, specifically from the Biblical account, has to either be accepted as fact or fiction, based purely on the faith in God and the Bible.

Next will be the Biblical representation of creation. According to the Biblical account of creation, an omnipotent being (known only as God by most, including Christians) created the universe with a word, then, began to form the universe as we see it today. Still, only using the power of His voice, He created the stars and all that we see around us. This amazing process of creation took only six days, which may or may not be taken literally. The discrepancy being in second Peter three eight: “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one is with the Lord a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” There are many takes on this verse, but some take it to mean that it took God six thousand years to create the universe as we know it. In either case, no man can know for sure until the prophecies of the Bible are proven true or false.

The evolutionist version will be shown next. The universe as we know it came to exist after the “Big Crunch,” when a universe that supposedly existed in ten dimensions (pardon the quantum physics) expanded beyond critical mass and imploded in upon itself, splitting into two universes, one of four dimensions, ours, and one of six dimensions, one that scientists are still trying to measure. After the newly split universe cooled sufficiently for atoms and molecules to form, came the agonizingly slow process of planet and star formation. After tens of billions of years, the planets had formed enough to, in some cases (ours being the only known case), form life. After the first living cells formed, they slowly began to evolve based on flaws in the copy of genetic code, causing slight mutations to occur over, again, billions of years, eventually forming advanced human, animal and plant life. This also, cannot be proven until the prophecies are proven or disproven, or if we can decipher the entire human genetic code.

Here is a comparison of the similarities between the two in matter of theoretical holes. The earth appears to be many billions of years old, while the Biblical account claims that it is only a few thousand years old. Also, fossil fuels also go against the teachings of the Bible, appearing to be millions of years old. Many would argue that this is because God has created the world mature and aged. Evolutionists have their own problems. One major issue is what appears to be a boot print in Cambrian shale, one of the most ancient rocks known to exist. In some places, there are complex fossils that are said to have existed an eon or more after the layers of rock they are found in. Possibly the most incriminating discrepancy, is the lack of “missing link” creatures, such as a “yeti” or “bigfoot” or “wood ape”.

There are a few, and I do mean few, places where the two theories agree. No man has been, or will be able to view the creation of the universe, no matter how hard we try. It will forever be in vain. While neither side claims that they agree on this fact, the survival of these theories depends on faith, both sides must realize that they must have faith in their respective argument, or else it will be impossible to even think scientifically about the creation. Lastly, both theory’s sciences are flawed, and therefore unable, at this time, to reveal our universe’s birth.

Neither theory can be proven true or false at this moment, but both must be accepted on faith. A person must choose one side or another in this debate if they want to be taken seriously in any scientific communities Both theories need each other, because without those who doubt the Bible, it would have none to be considered the “doubters” or “faithless” that abound in the New Testament. On the same note, evolutionists need the creationists to argue with, because if the theory had no incentive to prove themselves right, there would be no incentive for research in the first place. As was earlier stated, it is impossible to prove either theory right or wrong. Both must be take on the faith of a human mind. However, attempts are being made for both to be proven, for the truth to be found, and the need for faith to be dissolved.

Yes, evolution requires faith, just like creation. It just so happens that the faith needed for evolution is in evidence, while the faith in creation is in some supreme, super daddy who created us all, just to torture those who don’t believe in him.

Which is rational? Evidence of blind fear? Evidence.

Also, the end where people wouldn’t “research to prove themselves right” is incorrect. The research is to find more information about (and to help sustain) life, not to prove creationism wrong.

Actually it is all about testability. The billion years required for evolution is supported by the fact that the farthest galaxy we could see is billion light years away from us.
