Organic farming is nothing but application of organic manures and biological pesticides in agriculture or crop production with out using any chemical fertilizers, chemical pesticides, fungicides and weedicides. It stresses more on natural recycling of waste materials and production of input materials like vermicompost. Water haycinth is a pernoxius weed in the canals of the world which can be effectively used for production of vermicompost. Similarly, compost is prepared from some weed materials, urban and rural wastes and is highly useful manure in organic farming.
Organic farming is most important component of sustainable agriculture which stresses much on feeding the present generation with out affecting the interests of the future generations. This is facilitated by organic farming as it emphasizes on efficient recycling of waste matter and reduces the pressure on chemical fertilizers. This allows the future generations to preserve the natural reserve base used for chemical fertilizers for other beneficial purposes. Inorder to feed the evergrowing population of the globe, the demand for nutrients will be very high and significant percentage of the same must come from organic source and hence the necessity of organic farming is highly felt. As responsible citizens, we should try to encourage organic farming to reduce the load on chemical fertilizers and to ensure better quality fruit produce which is vital for human health. Moreover, it supports the healthy soil microbial biomass and ensures better soil health.
