Zero Was Born in India

India has a long tradition of learning. There were many scholars and scientists who have made contribute in mathematics, science and astronomy.

In the field of mathematics the concept of zero was born in our country. 0123456789.

 India also gave the numbers one to ten 12345678910 and the decimal system to other countries. Arab traders learnt these systems from India and took them to the European countries. The Arabs called the numbers `Hindsa’. We remember Indian mathematician Sri Ramanujam for his invaluable contribution in the field of mathematics. CV Raman, Homi J. Bhabha, J.C Bose and Vikram Sarabhai have been recognized all over the world for their contribution to the field of modern science.

In 1930, C.V Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize for his discovery of a phenomenon called the `Raman Effect’.

Sri Jagadesh Chandra Bose 1858 -1937 was a plant physicist- biologist, one of the pioneers of modern science in India. He founded the Bose research institute in Kolkata. He invented the Cresco graph, an instrument which records plant growth. He invented another instrument which measures electric response of plants to stimuli. He showed that, though plants do not have a brain, muscle or heart, they have small cells which help them o respond to stimuli.

Sir Syed Ahmaed khan- he belonged to utter Pradesh. He was also great reformer who tried to reform the Muslim society. He was opposed to the purdah system and other types of injustice done to women.

His major contribution is in the field of education. A collage was started by him at Aligrah which is now famous as Aligrah Muslim University.
