This lesson will explain the basics behind a SKEW-T Diagram.

The above slide is going to be important to use for the next slide. Each number explains a different item on the Skew-T below. These are just some of the items that will be found on a Skew-T.

1. Isobars(Pressure)   2. Isotherms(Temps) 3. Sat Mixing Ratio (Moisture) 4. Dry Adiabats (Dry Air)

5. Moist Adiabats (Moist Air) 6. Winds(Various Heights) 7. Temps(Levels) 8. Dew-points (Levels)

(Use the information from above to identify each line.)

Also another exercise that we can do is identify certain features on the skew-t. First location 5 we see how our blue temp line goes below 0C meaning that at location 5 we find our freezing level of the atmosphere for this location. Secondly, if you look over on the right side you see a wind barb this tells us the wind direction and speed at that level which happens to be Northwest at 25kts.

Now a quick lesson review.

So now we can go through and answer our questions above.

Enjoy the weather!!
