Mathematical Puzzle – No. Seven
Solve this puzzle. It is easy if you use some logic.
If a number AABB is divided by another number AB, the quotient is BB and the remainder is AA. If A and B represent single digits, can you find the digits? If you find the answer send me a comment, please.
SOLUTION TO PUZZLE # 6
Let the cost of an apple be $ x, that of an orange be $ y and of a mango be $ z.
Cost of three apples and an orange is as much as the cost of two mangoes, therefore,
3x + y = 2z
or 3x + y – 2z + 0…..(I)
Also, one apple, two oranges and three mangoes together cost $ 25, therefore,
x + 2y + 3z = 25…….(II)
To eliminate z from the equations we multiply (I) by 3 and (II) by 2 and then add them. Thus, we get
11x + 7y = 50………..(III)
Since x and y both have integral values, by trial and error we get x = 2 and y = 4. Putting these values in (II) we get z = 5.
Answer: The cost of an apple is $ 2, an orange is $ 4 and a mango is $ 5.
