Infinite Monkey Theorem
Whats wrong with mathematics.
We have all been to math class and heard the instructor talking about theories, equations, and square roots and all kinds of other information you will never use. My teacher did the exact same thing but he mentioned something that really got my attention and its called the Infinite Monkey Theorem. The theory states that
“a monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surly type a given text such as the complete works of William Shakespeare”
With that said mathematicians predict that if the experiment were attempted; the chance of a monkey typing even work such as Hamlet before the end of the universe would be slim to none.
So what exactly is the point of this theorem? Are writers going to buy a bunch of monkeys and teach them to hit letters on a typewriter for the chance of them typing a world renowned novel in hopes of striking it rich?
I’ve seen Good Will Hunting and watched the television show Numbers. I know that important breakthroughs come from advanced mathematics. Since I heard about this theorem I realized the problem today with mathematics; beyond basic algebra it has no real relevance to people’s everyday lives. People don’t use the information the learned in Calculus class. They need to spend more time on the implications mathematics has on real life events. Mathematicians are a dying breed and I don’t think anyone’s going do anything about it.

Interestingly weird theorem, that’s absolutely useless. Thanks for the interesting and informative piece.

That MYSPACE exists disproves the IMT.
