India has a long tradition of learning in Maths. There were many scholars and scientists who have made contribute in chemistry, mathematics, physical science and astronomy.

In the field of mathematics the concept of zero (0) number was born in our country. 0123456789.

India also gave the numbers one to ten 1234567890 and the decimal static system to other countries. Arab traders learnt these better systems from India and took them to the European countries. The Arabs called the numbers `Hindsa’. We remember Indian mathematician Sri Ramanujam for his invaluable contribution in the field of static mathematics. CV Raman, Homi J. Bhabha, J.C Bose and Vikram Sarabhai have been recognized all over the world for their contribution to the field of man and modern science.

In 1930, C.V Raman, south Indian was awarded the Nobel Prize for his discovery of a phenomenon called the `Raman Effect’.

A duck is a score of zero in cricket. Love is a score of zero in tennis. Zero is the number of months with 40 days, the number of BS in the word school.

Zero as a number for nothing was invented by the Indian astronomer and mathematician Brahmagupta (b. AD 598), who said that adding or subtracting ant number with zero gave the same number. He also said that any number multiplied by zero would be zero. Also, you now study in mathematics that an expression like 5/0 is meaningless. You cannot divide any number by zero.

Zero allows the use of place value in representing numbers.

For example: – the use of zero allows the symbol to represent eight, eighty, or eight hundred – according to its place value. The Arab mathematician Al- Khwarizini introduced the Hindu number system and numbers zero (0) to the west.
