Water is The Most Amazing Sustance on The Planet

Here is a lab I have conducted. Read the objective below to understand the lab.

State Change of Water

Objective:

In this experiment, I will attempt to show the state change of water. By using a Time versus Temperature graph, I will attempt to show that temperature does not change during a change of state. Also, I will show that water boils at 100 degrees Celsius.

Background Information:

            Section 3-3 Notes

Hypotheses:

1.      I think that I will be able to show the change in state of water because a state change is simply a physical change, which means the identity will not change.

2.      I predict that the ice cube will melt turning into water then the water will evaporate to a gas and that is called the water cycle.

3.      I think that the ice will change too three states of matter.

Materials:

            Safety Glasses

            Apron

            Bunsen Burner

            Ring stand

            Ring Clamp

            Striker

            Hose

            Thermometer clamp

            Thermometer

            4inch square wire gauze

            250mL Beaker

            100mL Graduated Cylinder

            Stopwatch

            Water

            Ice

Procedures:

1.      Gather materials.

2.      Set up apparatus as directed by the teacher.

3.      Obtain 50mL of water in the graduated cylinder.

4.      Pour the water into the beaker.

5.      Obtain ice cubes and place into beaker.

6.      Record the temperature every thirty seconds on the data table.

7.      Record the lowest temperature for 3 minutes (6 readings)

8.      Apply heat and continue recording every 30 seconds.

9.      Note time on data table when all ice cubes have melted.

10.  Note time of first boil.

11.  Note time of strong boil.

12.  Continue boil for 4 minutes.

13.  Make a graph and label it Time and Temperatures.

14.  Write a Conclusion

15.  Turn in complete lab
