Volcanoes Split The Earth in Half!

Volcanic eruptions have long inspired fear people. Maybe that’s why fire-breathing mountains have always been surrounded by myths. The highest and most majestic volcano in Europe – Mount Etna. Volcanic eruptions have long inspired fear people. Maybe that’s why fire-breathing mountains have always been surrounded by myths. The highest and most majestic volcano in Europe – Mount Etna. The Greeks believed that Mount Etna is located inside the workshop of the blacksmith god Hephaestus. Poets inhabited depths of a giant mountain dragons, which are weak, trying to get to the surface of the earth belched out smoke and flames.
This happened in 1400 BC. Waves of the Mediterranean Sea suddenly parted and the sky a pillar of fire shot up. There was a terrible explosion, and over the sea rose from the depths of the island – a huge kotloobraznaya depression with steep sides and flat bottom. It was a caldera which originated in the sea depths of the volcano of Santorini. Sunlight eclipsed by the cloud escaped from vents, volcanic ash, which, settling, covered an area of 200,000 square kilometers. Shock waves went around the Earth several times. The atmosphere of the planet rang and vibrated from the volcanic pulse. If such a disaster occurred today, it would entail enormous human sacrifices, many times exceeding the losses during the world wars. Traces of the volcanic eruption of Santorini in the form of ash and pumice can still be found in the coastal areas of North Africa and Asia Minor.

Until recently it was assumed that the geological formation of Santorini in the Mediterranean Sea can not be an extinct volcano: too large an area (83 square kilometers). In March 1900 English archaeologist A. Evans began excavations on the island of Crete. In the first months of work, he discovered the ruins of a beautiful palace. The surviving walls have not lost frescoes of great beauty. In the palace there were many rooms, courtyards, air bridges and underground tunnels. Thanks to this discovery mankind has learned about the once-existing Cretan-Mycenaean culture, maritime power of the Mediterranean, which flourished in the II millennium BC. Apparently, the mighty Cretan power ceased to exist after the eruption. Rich settlements disappeared under a layer of lava. Complete darkness due to the fact that the sun was closed volcanic ash, held over three days. According to current estimates, the energy of the explosion of the volcano of Santorini was equal to the energy of a million atomic bombs.

Volcano of Santorini was born thousands of years ago. Now, on Earth, there are 516 active volcanoes. One of them – Parikutin – was formed recently.
The birth of a volcano, witnessed by thousands of people occurred in 1943 at 830 kilometers west of Mexico City. February 5 Mexican farmer Domingo Sanchez, who worked in his field, he felt like the earth shook beneath his feet. Within days, the peasants of nearby villages felt the tremors. And finally on February 20 box Sanchez crossed the crack, which started to grow right before your eyes. Night from a crack appeared volcanic top, and thence to the horrific crash flew hot stones. By eight o’clock on the field has grown from the earth erupts hot gases and “Spitting” ten-lava cone. A week later, a newborn volcano has reached 15 meters in height, and by the end of the year grew to 30 meters. The volcano was named Parikutin.

In June 1944, started strong eruptions Parikutina. There were a few deafening explosions. From the crater rose a black cloud that occasionally flashes of lightning lit up. The stream of lava slipping down the slope, forced residents of nearby villages urgently to move to safer places. The ash fall asleep all around. The sunlight faded. All fields and pastures in the area were poisoned by substances spewed fire-breathing mountain.
Within a few months after the eruption, which deprived thousands of homeless people in the vicinity of Mexico City, observed an unusual blood-red sunsets. Local residents who witnessed the birth of a volcano and the participants further tragic events still remember the sun in those places for a long time it was blue and the moon exuded a bright green light.

Volcanologists believed that they fortunate enough to watch the birth of a new volcano. Residents of villages adjacent to the Parikutinu did not share their joy. Eventually they returned to their villages, destroyed homes rebuilt. However, there lives a quiet youth. Old people who have witnessed a unique phenomenon of nature, fear that the volcano, appeared on the field of their countryman, can at any moment to resume their activities and cause them to leave their homes again.
However, according to volcanologists as soon Parikutin not wake up. The most likely is the resumption of volcanic activity, Krakatoa and Tambora, located in the Indonesian archipelago. And scientists believe that it will not just eruptions, and a catastrophe of global proportions. “These volcanoes can explode with a monstrous force – say volcanologists – that some continents or even the Earth itself is split in half.”
