Top Five Deadliest Hurricanes in US History
Here’s a list of the top five deadliest hurricanes and how many lives they’ve claimed.
1. Hurricane Katrina,2005 Hurricane Katrina was a category 5 hurricane, claiming 1,604 lives and submerging New Orleans in millions of gallons of water.
2. Hurricane Andrew,1992. Hurricane Andrew hit Florida and carried on to the Gulf of Mexico. Luckily not many lives were lost. About $44,000,000 was estimated in damage.
3. Hurricane Charley, 2004. Hurricane Charley came to be in Florida on August 13, 2004. Only 10 lives were claimed by this massive hurricane however. An approximate $15,000,000 was recorded in damage.
4. Hurricane Ivan, 2004. Hurricane Ivan hit Alabama with winds of up to 130mph. As it sweeped through the South US, it claimed a total of 106 lives and $17,500,000 in damage.
5. Hurricane Hugo, 1989. Hurricane Hugo hit South Carolina in September of 1989. Hurricane Hugo was one of the deadliest hurricanes ever, giving an estimated of about $15,500,000 in damage.

Hurricane Katrina is the worst one. Hope there’s no other similar to this one.

The Galveston Hurricane of 1900 killed around 8000
1928 Okeechobee hurricane killed around 2500
There are quite a few others that beat out some on your list, those were all horrible though, and of course nothing in the U.S. comes close to Katrina in recent times.
