The research was conducted by the International Geological Reviewers (IGR) to viewthe seismic activity around the Dead Sea. The quake originated about 13 miles from Jerusalem.
Gospel of Matthew Chapter 27 says that when Jesus died on the cross, an earthquake shock occurred at that location. The ground shook and the sky suddenly darkened.
Now the researchers examined the context of the text is supported by the geological record, and astronomical data. The incorporation of data to search for possible dates when the death of Jesus.
Supersonic Geophysical geologists, Jefferson Williams and colleagues from the German Research Center for Earth Sciences studied soil samples from the coastof Ein Gedi Spa, near the Dead Sea. After digging down to the deepest soil layers, two earthquakes can be detected by looking sendimen that form a layer.
Varves which became the name for the studied soil layers were built each year. The spread of the earthquake began in 31BC.
The spread of the earthquake began in 31BC. Another earthquake struck in 26 AD and 36 AD. Williams told the Discovery, the laste arthquake occurred inthe year when it became the ruler of Judea, Pontius Pilate. This is the time of the earthquake mentioned in Matthew’s case.
According to Williams asreported by the Daily Mail, the day Jesus was crucified and the date is still uncertain. But, the year of dea this appropriate.
Williams looking for clues to match all the data from the Gospel. Friday was chosen because all Scripture suggests that the crucifixion occurred on the day.
Researchers say the instructions are combined with the Jewish calendar and astronomical data. The result, Friday, April 3 33 AD is likely to be most appropriate
