Definition of an Island

My thought on what an island really is.

By definition an island is a body of land surrounded by water on all sides.

Does this mean my rubber ducky is an island in the bathtub? I kid about my rubber duck, but it is an island, correct? The world’s biggest “island” is Greenland, although I do not know why it would be considered to be number one, since Australia is much bigger then it, but yet Australia is not an island? Is it because it’s a Continent? If this is the case that is stupid in my opinion. Australia is surrounded by water on all sides therefore it is an island.

Now something else that I thought is wouldn’t like North America be considered an island? It’s really big but still an island because it is surrounded by water on all sides, it may be small amounts like the Panama Canal which at it’s narrowest point is only 100 yards across.

So Eurasia (the land mass of Europe and Asia) is also an island. In my opinion yes it most definately is. And please remember that Africa is not connected to Eurasia because of the Suez Canal.

Most geographers will say Greenland is the biggest island on this world. I know me and some other people say that Eurasia blows Greenland away being nearly 7 times as big in size. Because like I’ve said an island is a body of land surrounded by water on all sides

Yes, I think you would be correct, but in technical terms I think there is a maximum size that an island can be which Australia, North America, Africa, and Eurasia are all bigger than. Not sure what that size is but I remember hearing about it.

You’ve got some very interesting thoughts and opinions,
