Coldest Cities on Earth

Some travelers preferred cold places to spend their holidays. Reasons are vary, some said it’s because they don’t like their skin burned by the sun and some say it’s because they want to totally chill off their mind from their daily activities.

If you happen to be one of those travelers, then you have come to the right place. Here’s the list of 4 coldest cities on earth, only come here if you dare to be frozen :

1. Yakutsk, Russia

Located in deep Eastern Siberia, this city holds a record for the coldest city on earth. Normally, the temperatures will be around -45.9 °C (−51 °F) but at its peak the temperature can reach -71.2°C (-96.2 °F). You can only reach this city on summer by using a Ferry from Lena Highway across the Lena River. On normal days, the river will be frozen.

2. Oymyakon, Russia

Same as Yakutsk, it’s still located in the deep Eastern Siberia. However, it’s slightly less cold in this city. On average, the temperature is around -41.2 °C (−42.0 °F) but at its peak it could reach about –65.4 °C (−86 °F). However, during the summer time, the temperature can raise to 22.2 °C (72.0 °F) which will make this city would be more friendly to human.

3. Verkhoyansk, Russia

This city is the third smallest town in Russia, inhabited by only about 1,400 people. This is mostly caused by its temperature that’s normally will reach -40 °C (−40 °F) and −69.8 °C (−93.6 °F) at its peak. It’s still a quite interesting spot for those who want to travel in such a freezing place.

4. Barrow, Alaska, USA

Alaska is already known as the coldest state in USA because of its location that’s close to the Antarctic Circle. However, among the cold cities in Alaska, Barrow is the coldest. The average temperature in the city is around -20.1 °C (−29.0 °F) but at its peak it can reach about -53.0 °C (−47.0 °F). This city become this cold because it’s the northernmost city in the USA and hence the closest one to the Antarctica. On some occasion, you could also spot a beautiful Aurora sparkling on the sky.

If you’re really eager to visit any of these places, it’s recommended that you have a proper equipment to stand the cold. A body exposure to the weather would result a numbness that will lasts for days or possibly an instant death. So, make sure you’re really prepared to face this kind of weather. Other than that, these places are all have great sceneries that will make your travelling experience worth the extreme cold you’re having.

    Wow!!!! I could never imagine, I live in Houston where it hardly gets under freezing and this is just sooo cold/

    Wow, that is extremely cold. Certainly not the weather for me! :) But I would like to visit Alaska someday, but in the summer though!
