Right from the expedition and exploration of different parts of the world what has been always growing and fascinating is the art of Cartography or map-making helping people to explore and document different parts of the world. Cartography has been there in this world since 8000 years ago and while primitive people had been carving stones and caves to keep track of different locations scholars have now started using printing and even animations for mapping.
Greek history has phenomenal examples and portraits of Cartography and this art was also well known in Babylon and different parts of Asia.
Pedro Reinel, a Portuguese cartographer in 16th century had been able to design a nautical chart considered as one of the oldest known chart.
This nautical chart covers Europe and Africa and covers explorations of Diogo Cao. Pedro Reinel also took part in the making of Atlas and other well known charts with other well known cartographer Lopo Homem.
This old chart created by Pedro Reinel has latitude scales and is also known as “plane chart” or “latitude chart”.
