The Nest of Dinosaur Baby in Mongolia: Protoceratops Andrewsi
A nest of baby of dinosaur was discovered in Mongolia recently. The nest was filled 15 fossils of dinosaur from Triceratops family.
The dinosaur babies that found in Djadochta Formation, Tugrikinshire, Mongolia, have 4-5 inch in size. It was predicted that their ages are less than 1 year old. The age of fossils is 70 million years old. They were fossils of Protoceratops Andrewsi, a species of Protoceratops.
nest of Protoceratops Andrewsi
Protoceratops Andrewsi was an herbivorous dinosaur. It is has a bony frill around the back of its neck .It was as size as a sheep. Protoceratops andrewsi had a beaklike mouth, which it used to eat foliage.
Protoceratops Andrewsi
Name of Protoceratops means “first horned face,” because it’s believed to be the first of the ceratopsians. Protoceratops had a bump on its nose in the place where many later ceratopsians had horns. It also had thickened areas of bone above its eye sockets. It was another spot for horns in dinosaurs like Triceratops. For this reason, some researchers believe Protoceratops was an ancestor of many other horned dinosaurs and frilled dinosaurs.
Protoceratops Andrewsi
A paleontologist from University of Rhode Island, David Fastovsky said that the 15 young Protoceratops look like taken care enough. The fact shows that Protoceratops might protect their baby for growth period. They lived in hard environment, so might be their level of death is high. They might be attacked by sand storm.
Heart of Gobi desert where the nest was found is rich of prehistoric trace. Veociraptor and Protoceratops that were locked on fighting also were buried here. Their fossils were found that captured a Velociraptor mongoliensis clutched around a Protoceratops andrewsi in Mongolia at 1971. It is believed that they died simultaneously, while fighting, when they were either surprised by a sand storm or buried when a sand dune collapsed on top of them.
The experts will reconstruct ecosystem where Protoceratops lived. To more understand how they lived.
