A rough work of the geological and biological events that occurred in the mesozoic era.
The Mesozoic era lasted from 65 to 225 million years ago and is divided into 3 periods and often called the “The Age of the Dinosaurs”. These periods are the Cretaceous period, the Jurassic period and the Triassic period from latest to oldest respectively. Large crustal disturbances occurred during the end of the Palaeozoic and the beginning of the Mesozoic eras. The life of the Mesozoic was conquered by reptiles that eventually evolved into dinosaurs that dwell on land.
The Mesozoic era lasted from 65 to 225 million years ago and is divided into 3 periods and often called the “The Age of the Dinosaurs”. These periods are the Cretaceous period, the Jurassic period and the Triassic period. Pangaea had split into multiple landmasses throughout the late Triassic these continents were called Laurasia and Gondwana. Giant mountain building began on the western end of the Americas caused Gondwana to split and is the cause for the Rocky Mountains. A large amount of igneous rock was formed during this period as 2 of the largest volcanic events occurred in this era. Warm global temperatures and accelerated seafloor spreading caused marine waters to flood large segments of continents. Through the late Mesozoic tectonic activity amplified intensely. The Mesozoic tectonic activity included many subduction zones like the pacific side of Pangaea.
Flying reptiles and birds first appeared during the Mesozoic. The land was dominated by dinosaurs until the extinction of them. Flowering plants, deciduous trees and grasses appeared throughout this era. Conifers conquered the plant life, with modern pines and sequoias first appearing. The Cretaceous–Tertiary extinction event was a mass extinction that ended the reign of the dinosaurs and did not allow the species to continue. Scientists believe this event was caused by a large meteor or dramatically increased volcanic activity. -Mammals likely evolved from some common ancestor of the reptiles in the early Triassic period. Although these mammals were still dominated by the reptiles and were not as developed as today. The mammals had many reptiles like features.
