Ida the Missing Link

Commentary on a fossil that maybe a missing link in evolutionary mammal world.

Ancient vegetarian primate discovered by scientists in Germany.  She is a well preserved and complete fossil (food still preserved in the stomach) possibly an important link between evolutionary branch and the animal kingdom.

They clock it at about 47 million years ago.  Named after one of the scientists daughters.

She has been kept secret for 2 years but discovered over 20 years ago by an amateur fossil hunter.

In honor of Darwin’s birthday it is aptly named Darwinius masillae.

She is so famous she maybe the first non-human on the cover of People Magazine.

The asking price for this important find was 1 million but the University has remained quiet.

Well preserved adolescent with all of its baby teeth just in transition for the permanent adult ones.  Scientists have learned much from this find because of the condition of the specimen.

They believe the creature had just become independent of its mother and it was between 6 to 9 months old.

Suspecting an injuring of a broken wrist helped in her demise.  She may have survived a fall but because of the fracture it caused an impairment to climb. Leaving her vulnerable when she had to venture down the water in the trees to the water in the lake.

More than likely Ida fell in the Volcanic lake of Messel thus preserving her in the sediment.
