New Evacuations in Iceland at Eyjafjallajokull
The Eyjafjallajokull-Fimmvorduhals region of Iceland has evacuated in preparation for ongoing volcanic activity.
Officials have evacuated people from the Eyjafjallajokull-Fimmvorduhals area because the volcano that is under this glacier is erupting again. Hundreds of people have been evacuated and all local roads have been closed. Helicopters are currently on eruption watch.
Just when they thought the activity at Eyjafjallajokull was subsiding, another round of shallow earthquakes started up under the ice cap. There is also concern for possible glacial flooding as water levels have already risen considerably. This morning, a hole in the glacier was discovered. At the time of writing this, officials in the area are concerned about ash clouds that are currently blowing north. They are considering closing down airspace due to safety issues.
