Weather “U” Lesson Four

Our evaluation into the High clouds and what they look like.

Weather “U” Lesson 3 Questions.

1. Which cloud can tell us of an approaching warm fornt?

Weather “U” Lesson 4 (High Clouds)

This first high cloud that we have here is called Cirrocumulus and if you look at the image above you can see it is fairly small in size. These clouds are higher up in the atmosphere sometimes above 20,000ft. The temps at this level means that these types of clouds are created by frozen ice crystals.

The next high cloud which is in the above image is called the Cirrus cloud. Cirrus clouds are mostly thin and whispy just as the image shows above. When these clouds are present don’t mind them there is not going to be any significant weather. Cirrus clouds are also found around 20,000ft usually.

And a look at our final high cloud which is known as Cirrostratus. Cirrostratus clouds are high and uniform in nature that is what stratus stands for. These clouds just like the other Cirrus clouds form in the upper levels around 20,000ft and have no impacts on the weather other than if thick enough can block out the sunshine.

Enjoy the weather and the clouds and hope to see you back for another Weather “U” lesson.
